it seems like the wolves eventually start to catch up to your wagon even if it's in good condition. which isn't ideal as it forces a sacrifice, which kinda means that there's a hard limit to how far you can go.

is there some other way to keep the wolves at bay?

The theme of the jam was "Sacrifices need to be made" so you HAVE to sacrifice in order to survive. You can however sacrifice one of the horses instead of one of the people...

fair enough.

pressing the repair button doesn't seem to actually do anything

Repair your trojka by dragging a person onto the damaged part, then press the indicated button repeatedly to repair. Multiple persons can repair at once to increase repairspeed.

i do drag them there but when i press the repair button it doesn't speed it up at all

The interaction is a bit clunky, you need to drag the people onto the green highlighted object, then release (they change animation using a hammer), then you need to tap the indicated key on the keyboard multiple times so the green bar will fill up and the part is repaired.

i know that but even when i do that tapping on the keyboard doesn't change how fast the bar fills.

But does the bar fill at all? And do you play the windows version or the WebGL version?
